Avanti Hotel Brno

The desk staff’s judgmental attitude was the main thing that spoiled our stay. I’m an artist manager and came with artists from Brazil, whose looks and fashion may be different from what you usually see in Brno. That’s no reason to judge paying guests, especially at a 4* hotel. My guests felt uncomfortable, and it was a real letdown at an otherwise high-quality place. There was a lot to like: the hotel offered good value, the rooms were spacious and relatively clean, and the free breakfast had a great selection. We also had free access to the rooftop spa, a low-key setup with a Finnish sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi. That was just what we wanted, though we could have paid extra for the full basement spa. I’d stayed at the sister resort Atlantis last year and was so impressed with its facilities that I was glad to find this branch in the city. We had to ask reception for spa slippers, though robes were already in the room. The towels supplied were dusty, so we asked for extras.

Breakfast was quite good, and the staff were friendly. They did offer to move me to another room, but I doubted it would help, and there was no maintenance person available to fix the problems. The air conditioning barely worked, making it hard to sleep. The desk staff said it cooled by one degree every thirty minutes, but after running all night for more than 12 hours, the temperature had only fallen 4 degrees C. They insisted it was working, although changing the controls didn’t affect the fan strength. Only one front desk staff member spoke functional English. I know Czechia isn’t an English-speaking country, but passable English is usual at good hotels there. I’d booked Avanti for its outdoor patio and hot tub overlooking the city, only to find them being renovated during the busiest season. They opened a wellness spa instead, with a small jacuzzi. Sometimes a couple would be getting intimate in the unsupervised space, which made me wonder about hygiene. My room was mostly clean, but parts of the shower floor were slimy, with buildup that looked like it had been there a long time. Czechia’s star-rating system is terrible, to say the least. Avanti doesn’t deserve four stars.

We had such a good time here with my teachers and friends during Erasmus. The breakfast was great, and we especially loved the bowling area and the jacuzzi with its perfect view over the city. Thank you!

The rooftop on the 8th floor, with its sauna and jacuzzi, was our favorite spot. Breakfast was quite decent, too. The hotel has its own free outdoor parking lot, which is a big advantage, and restaurants and the historic city center are within walking distance.
