Hostel Fléda

For 9 euros, the cheapest bed was a great deal, and I really liked the atmosphere at Hostel Fleda. The staff were welcoming and happy to give information. The beds were comfortable and came with big lockers. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and a cooker, plus a microwave and even some food, like pasta, tea and coffee.

The bar next door sounds like a great idea, but in practice it's bad news if you want proper sleep. The rooms look out over an alley where the partying carries on all night. If partying is the point, this place is fantastic for staying up and meeting people. Just make sure you're drunk enough to pass out at 5 am, or skip it. Even if you're in Brno for the party, you probably don't want to sleep in the middle of it. Better to party here and sleep somewhere peaceful, on your own schedule.

The reception team were friendly and helpful, all three women I spoke with. But the owners' online photos are highly deceptive. The building is old and not very clean, and there's a loud club right next door, so you'll need earplugs.

We paid 38 euros for the worst night I've ever had in a hostel. The room was disgusting, with a dusty, dirty floor, and we spent the night itching and checking for bed bugs. There was no curtain, so we were almost woken at 6 a.m. There was no soundproofing between rooms either, and we could hear everything happening next door. I'll spare you the details. We also waited 30 minutes for the receptionist to open the gates. Disgusting!
