Schrott Bed&Beer

I’m still staying at Schrott Bed&Beer and couldn’t be happier that I called while traveling. Online, I couldn’t find any availability, but they had a room when I phoned directly. The place feels cozy and welcoming, with a homey atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. The kitchen is well equipped, and the modern toilets and showers were clean. There’s also a great bar with a good range of beers at reasonable prices, a nice spot to unwind after exploring. It’s comfortable, affordable, and full of character, and it’s lived up to its great reviews for me.

I won’t stay here again. The road is so noisy that I couldn’t sleep properly, and the hotel’s own employees spent the night outside smoking and talking loudly. Customer service was a nightmare. After I canceled my booking, they wouldn’t let me book again, citing a supposed rule against booking after two cancellations. Staff spoke to me disrespectfully. This is my honest experience, and I can’t believe service could be this poor.

The bed was clean and comfortable, and the place is close to the city center. For the price, I didn’t expect much, but the rest was still bad. My double room wasn’t clean, and the bathroom and toilet were disgusting. I know they’re shared, but they shouldn’t be left unchecked all day. I also felt unsafe. The doors are so thin that every sound carries, and the kitchen seating is only a meter from the bathroom and toilet doors. So when you go to shower or use the toilet, a group of strange men is sitting right beside you.

For the cost and location, this is hard to beat. It’s just a 2-3 block walk to the train and bus stations and the old town. The room could have held eight beds, but there were six, plus individual lockers and a sofa, so it felt spacious. The bed was good, with its own light, and they supplied a free towel and earplugs. The shower was good, the kitchen was okay with a small fridge, and the WiFi was okay too. The bar downstairs looked nice and seemed popular with college-age customers, though it would count as a dive bar in the US. I didn’t drink there. Despite that, it was surprisingly peaceful upstairs. The photos look much brighter than the place was when shot, but the contents and interior are accurate. Recommended.
