Hotel Sladovna

The Czech food was hearty and good, and the meeting spaces are nice in warmer conditions. But our meeting room was so cold that many people sat in heavy coats, and some needed blankets. My room was pleasant, though its only view was straight into a passage.

We stopped here on the way back from a mountain trip after a colleague recommended the place, and I wish it were closer to home. The coffee was rich and fragrant, a lovely way to finish the meal, and every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and tasted better than we expected. There was plenty of choice on the menu, and you could tell the kitchen took care with the food. The welcome was just as good. The staff were warm from the moment we arrived, attentive throughout, and made us feel at home. We left impressed by the food, coffee, and hospitality, and would happily return when we're in the area. Highly recommended.

Breakfast was superb, and we had a delicious dinner at the restaurant too. We also spent a few hours enjoying the wellness area and saunas. The room was clean and quiet, and the staff were friendly and helpful, which made for a very pleasant stay. I missed having hand soap and sanitizer in the room. A minibar would have been handy as well, especially since we picked up a couple of takeaway beers from the brewery next door.

I came hoping for an immersive stay as a beer lover, but left disappointed. The hotel was built on part of the Cerna Hora brewery site, with the factory now next door, yet there's almost nothing here to suggest the brewery connection beyond a small beer museum. I tried to arrange a brewery visit, but the hotel told me to book directly at the brewery reception. Nobody there spoke English, so I couldn't visit. What I got was a beer bath and an unguided look around the little museum. For a beer lover, it really wasn't worth the money. I realized after arriving that the hotel is mainly focused on its spa, with massages and therapeutic baths. The facilities are a small pool, a shared Jacuzzi, and saunas. The spaces are meant to be relaxing, but communication was stressful because staff didn't speak English and relied on a few English keywords. Even asking for extra towels could be difficult. The rooms are small, though the bed and pillows were comfortable. The air conditioning didn't work. The restaurant was overpriced too: a simple lunch for two cost 1000 Czech crows, without wine. If you don't speak Czech, this isn't the place for you.
