Pivovar & Penzion GRASEL

Before our trip, I emailed to ask whether late check-in was possible, and the pension confirmed by email that it was. We sent another email and called as well to let them know we’d be arriving late. When we got there, nobody was waiting. No one opened the door, and none of our calls to the number left for late arrivals were answered. It seemed like the phone was in night mode.

We were passing through and stopped for a lovely lunch inside while waiting to tour the castle across the street. There were lots of biking and hiking guests, and the spacious place has tables nicely spread out. The Ukrainian pelmeni were quite nice, and the beer was great and came quickly, though the food service was a little slow. Great location, and the bathrooms were very clean.

Their own beer was very good, and we had almost everything from the minimalist menu, which has 10 types of meal, including the homemade "donut". Some dishes came in smaller portions. That suited us, since the meat meals were bigger and the fried dishes smaller, which makes sense because fried food is heavier. Fantastic meal.

The beer was very good and portions were big. Service felt very amateur, though they said the regular staff were sick. We had no trouble ourselves, but some other diners were at our table and had to wait 30 minutes just for their ordered beer. Maybe we were lucky.
