Hotel Braník

We only found out on arrival that the hotel has a 1:00 AM to 5:30 AM curfew, when you can neither enter nor leave. You might end up sleeping on a street bench if you can find one. Booking.com shouldn’t work with a place like this. Service was terrible, and the price was inflated as usual. The receptionist was the biggest problem. He only spoke Chinese, and it felt like we were in China rather than the Czech Republic. After we booked this barn, nobody answered the phone until my fifth try. Then I was told we had to check in before 11:00 PM. I haven’t run into service this poor in a long time.

We enjoyed our stay. The room and bedsheets were clean and nice. We were a bit late checking out, but the receptionist was kind and didn’t mind waiting until we were ready. For someone just passing through who needs a place to rest, I can recommend this hotel.

The location was so far from the city center that we lost a lot of time getting around, and there were no shops or restaurants nearby. For the same money or a little more, you could find a better hotel in the center and enjoy your holiday. I wouldn’t recommend this place, and I won’t use Booking.com for future trips. They should visit the site before listing it and giving such a hotel a high rating. It spoiled my whole trip. We booked three rooms, but none of the televisions worked. There was no room service or proper entrance. The rooms smelled awful and were disgustingly dirty, with unclean bathrooms and old, broken fixtures. The carpets looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in years, and almost nothing worked, even basic things like the lights. This hotel was a real disappointment.

We arrived with a Check24 booking confirmation, but the staff said there was no reservation. We showed that we had booked and had messaged in advance to say we would bring a dog, but the hotel never replied. No one on staff spoke English or Czech, and even a translator app didn’t help. One person at reception brought someone else from a room, who shouted at us, behaved aggressively, and told us to leave. We called the police for help. They said the hotel was known to them as extremely poor quality, apparently among the worst in Prague, and that they came by regularly. But speaking to us, two women aged 25 and 27, they left us alone in the rain and said they couldn’t help because we hadn’t paid. They suggested spending the night in a fast food restaurant. I’ve never felt more let down by the police. The owner seemed heavily intoxicated and circled around us during all this. He was unsteady on his feet, argued with the officers, and was extremely rude. The Chinese staff couldn’t communicate with us or the police because they spoke neither English nor Czech. Just before we left, the owner suddenly spoke to us in German, even though we’re German and he’d clearly heard us speaking it the whole time. Then we were shouted at again and told to leave immediately, with a threat that we’d be locked inside otherwise. I’ve never been through anything so disturbing, and I’m still deeply shaken. Never again, no matter how cheap it is.
