Hotel Pavlov

The staff were flexible about our booking, and we had a nice stay. Our room had been refurbished nicely, especially the bathroom, and the restaurant served a good range of tasty traditional Czech dishes. Reception had little advice about local walking routes or things to do nearby, which cost it a star. The breakfast coffee could also be much better, with a better machine or, ideally, a trained barista.

The restaurant looks nice, and the fish we ordered was very good. The knedliček, though, was just a heap of old bread pieces cooked together and looked awful. The rice and potatoes had clearly been salted after cooking, and some vegetables tasted as if they’d been fried in a scratched pan.

We only went to the restaurant. My friend’s duck was good, but I left hungry. I ordered gnocchi and the waiter said they could make it without meat. Someone in the kitchen forgot and put a lot of chicken on my plate, even though I’m vegetarian. They brought me a meat-free plate eventually, but it was too small, just a couple of gnocchi with cream sauce. When I mentioned this, the waiter offered no discount and only said he’d tell the chef for next time. The hot wine was among the worst I’ve ever drunk, a real shame in a wine village. The restaurant was a bit cold, and the TV was on too loud, showing The Simpsons. Prices felt high for the service and quality.

The room was spacious and clean, with a nice recently refurbished bathroom. There are lovely views, and the restaurant is good, with locally produced wines. The staff were very friendly.
