Wine Wellness Hotel Amande

The staff were professional and really pleasant to talk with, in Czech or English. My massage was also fantastic, and the therapist took great care of me. But those were the bright spots in an experience that left me with indigestion, heartburn, and an upset stomach for the rest of the stay. I was eager to get home, and at 7,630kc for one night, the cost just didn't match what we got. We'd booked the superior room in advance for a winter wellness weekend. The mini fridge was cold but completely empty, not even water, and there was no kettle, tea, or instant coffee. The robes were small and barely closed, and the standard paper slippers felt flimsy and slippery in the wet spa areas. We had also paid the 500kc pet fee, but there was no bowl in the room or offered on arrival. A few small touches would've made a difference. The couples treatment cost just under 2000kc for 90 minutes, but it was entirely DIY. We were paying to use the room and its snacks, wine, and cosmetics. The room had a jet bathtub, a small steam sauna, a water bed, and a hamam table where we were told to lie on a sheet and rinse off in the shower rather than use it properly. The cosmetics were only a spoonful of lotion and two spoonfuls of a nice apricot scrub, not enough for one person, let alone two if meant for full body use. There were two small bowls of almonds, one perhaps with honey and sesame seeds, and one plain and very dry. The bottle of rose frizannte tasted spoiled or badly stored, both sweet and sour. We left most of it and felt unwell afterward. We'd booked massages too, but although there are two massage rooms, only one masseuse was working. My husband didn't want to wait an hour after the couples treatment, so only I went ahead. At dinner, the draft Pilsner seemed expired or the lines hadn't been cleaned properly. We wondered if the wine had affected us, then ordered beef tartar with basil and parmesan. It arrived grey rather than pink, with dry micro greens and pea shoots, plus four pieces of dry white toast. There was no moisture to it. The rabbit with mustard brandy sauce was a good pairing. The truffle potato gratin was nearly right, though the nutmeg in the beshamel overpowered the truffle. The chocolate cake was moist, the fruit went well with it, and the cream was pleasant, though there was a bit too much gelatin holding it together. The room and wellness details were disappointing, but the restaurant meal had a few good points. Still, I wouldn't recommend the place for the price.

A convenient place to stop while travelling across the continent, with parking right outside and comfortable beds. The rooms were very clean. The hotel itself feels dated and could use refurbishment, but that doesn't bother me much when I'm only sleeping there, as long as it's clean.

The room was comfortable, including the bed and linens, and the hotel itself looks quite nice. But nobody told us that spa access was limited and needed advance booking, so we couldn't use it. We also weren't advised to reserve either a wine pairing dinner or a table at the attached Wine Club. We ended up ordering a la carte and had wine that was drinkable but freezing cold. For a place called a Wine Wellness Hotel, the rooms had no coffee maker, Kleenex, or any kind of lotion or conditioner. A lot of potential was missed here. I would never recommend this hotel.

The breakfast was good, and the hotel is close to the train and within walking distance of the almond trail. But I wouldn't plan on staying more than a day. There isn't coffee in the room, restaurants are nearly nonexistent, and on our day here only one of the five wineries scheduled to be open actually was. For foreigners, bring cash, since most places will say they don't accept credit cards to evade taxes. The hotel was basically the path of least resistance, and it may be the only decent option for a stay. We booked a room that included 90 minutes of spa access, only to find it was booked out two weeks in advance. That's a hard joke. They really should advertise that visitors need to do their homework before coming.
