Villa Basileia

Parking in Karlovy Vary can be hard to find, so having the hotel’s own lot was a real plus. We stayed in room 7, which had a terrace. It was spacious and practical, with decent mattresses, WiFi, and everything kept spotlessly clean. The building is a renovated 19th-century landmark, and the restaurant is just as impressive, with excellent food and a menu that changes daily. Breakfast was great, and the hotel and restaurant staff were attentive and courteous. I’ll definitely come back.

We couldn’t sleep on our first night because guests in the room above were making noise, and we were woken up rudely. The building has character, but you can hear every sound through the floors. There’s nobody at reception overnight, so we raised it the next day. They told us the hotel was full and didn’t seem very sympathetic about the lost sleep. It felt geared more toward locals having drinks late at night than tourists. The stay could have been very pleasant otherwise, but I wouldn’t return. I’d look for somewhere closer to the centre.

The location is good, and so is breakfast, but the old floorboards let sound travel. You can hear every guest arriving in the room above. If getting a decent night’s sleep matters, I’d look elsewhere.

The staff made this stay for me. They were always around to help and brought great energy, and when I woke up late they were happy to extend breakfast beyond its usual 8 to 10 schedule. There were lots of choices, and breakfast was excellent. Special thanks to Giorgio, pavel, Vladimir, and everyone else at villa Bassilea. The room was tidy, clean, and spacious, with a modern TV, plenty of international channels, and a lovely river view. The mattress was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out of bed. It had everything I needed. The hotel is right by the river and close to the main carlsbad promenade, with the main historic sights just moments away. I can’t fault the place and will stay here whenever I’m in town.
