Bouda na Lučinách

The food was a real highlight for us. Lunches and dinners were hot, delicious, and filling, with something different each day. There wasn’t a dish we disliked during our stay. Breakfast was served instead of the advertised buffet, which they explained was temporary because supplies were limited. We still had eggs, ham or salami, cheese, butter or cream, jam, homemade buns and pastries, plus coffee and black or fruit tea. That was enough for me, though my husband would’ve preferred a larger portion and took some of mine. The staff were very nice and handled things well, even though Bouda had only reopened on the day we arrived, 28.12.2018, and some guests made exaggerated demands and fussed a lot. We spent New Year’s Eve at Bouda na Lučinách. Its location is excellent, with a beautiful view, right beside a ski slope that connects to the wider ski area and cross-country trails. Downstairs there’s a fairly large ski room, a restaurant with a small bar, and a common room with billiards for evenings together. The rooms are small but clean, cozy, and suited to a mountain stay. Shared bathrooms on each floor were fine for us, though at busy times, in the morning and after the slopes closed, there was sometimes less hot water. That seems normal in mountain huts. Compared with other places we’ve visited in the area, the nightly price seemed very low, especially for the most popular time of year. The accommodation and service are worth more than the price. We’re not saying that just because we know the operator, Mr. Havel. We’d recommend Bouda na Lučinách to people who enjoy nature, hiking, or winter sports and understand the location and its limits, rather than expect hotel resort services at a low price.

The view of Sněžka and the surrounding area is lovely, and the ski lift is close by. But the food was just edible, nothing special, and breakfast was the same every day. There were no eggs, fruit, or vegetables. The staff don’t speak Czech, only English. Hopefully the new Czech chef will improve the standard of the cottage. Cleaning didn’t seem to get much attention, especially given that there are only two toilets for so many rooms.

The hut’s location is great, and getting there is easy, with parking right beside it. There’s plenty for kids to do, including a trampoline and a games corner full of board games. The library has lots of different titles too, something for everyone. The operators are pleasant and ready to help whenever needed. We had half board, and the dinners were perfect. I recommend it.

The hotel is clean, though the rooms aren’t much to look at. The meals are tasty, and breakfast is okay. Bathrooms and toilets are outside the rooms. Booking a room with breakfast directly on-site is cheaper than going through somewhere like Booking.com. It’s around $100 for this price, in the Karkonosze Landscape Park.
