AXA Hotel

Breakfast was simple but enough, and housekeeping was efficient. The reception staff were very friendly. My room was basic, but spacious and practical. A pleasant stay and good value for the price.

The room was cleaned well, and the location worked for us. Still, I regretted choosing this hotel on the first day and wouldn't return or recommend it. Breakfast was a letdown, with hardly any choice and some of the driest cakes I've ever had. I booked mainly for the pool and gym, then found neither was included in the price. They're run as a leisure centre for locals, even though they're inside AXA hotel. Staff at the hotel desk were rude about massage bookings, saying that was another company. At the pool and massage desk, no one mentioned cash only. I asked the hotel reception if I could pay by card and get the amount in cash to cover the massage. The tall blonde/ginger man cut me off with “it’s a different company,” didn't listen to my request, and shrugged when I explained they only took cash. He offered no alternative. I understand the gym and pool are run by another company, but the poor information and communication still reflects on AXA hotel. The pool takes cash while the gym accepts cards, which makes no sense to me. It all feels inconsistent. There are no water fountains at the gym either. We were left feeling like tourists weren't welcome and only locals mattered.

Our room had a lovely skyline view, plenty of space and all the amenities were fine. Given the season, it stayed at a comfortable temperature, neither too warm nor too cold. Housekeeping and the breakfast service were great too. We were very happy with our four days at Hotel AXA. Its location made it easy to explore on foot or take the tram.

On rainy days there were no mats outside our rooms, so we tracked dirt in and had limited ways to clean it ourselves, just TP. The security staff member asking me for cigarettes was odd. The pool is included in the price but also open to the public, and it gets extremely crowded. Things seem to be getting worse with each stay. Last time, breakfast was moved from 7:30 to 8 AM, which was too late for my schedule.
