Hotel Kacerov

I’ve lived around the corner since this place opened years ago. Reception and management don’t speak any English. It’s a flophouse mostly used by Ukrainian men temporarily working on Prague construction sites. Since many are away from their families for months, the atmosphere doesn’t feel safety-first, especially for women traveling alone.

We only stayed one night, and it was frightening and awful. The bedding smelled bad and seemed poorly kept, the towels weren’t properly washed, and the floors and furniture were stained and dirty. The mattresses were hard. A bar next door played loud music and people shouted through the night. I can’t recommend this accommodation.

There was no hot water, the old TV didn’t work, and getting heavy luggage to the building meant carrying it up stairs from some distance away. There’s no elevator and cars can’t access the place. Inside, carpets were filthy, sheets and mattresses stained, and so many beds were crammed into one room that walking through was impossible. The smell was awful. Drunk people shouted beneath the windows all night until early morning. The cashier couldn’t provide a receipt and, speaking in broken Russian and Czech, told me I had to trust her with several hundred euros. I can’t understand how a place like this is allowed to call itself a hotel.

I booked one night at a good price, then they cancelled without giving a reason. Now I have to pay five times as much, if I can even find somewhere.
