Pension Alba

The restaurant at pension Alba is a hidden gem in Spindleruv mlyn. The menu is simple, but the food is excellent, prices are reasonable, and service is quick and friendly. Locals come in for a beer or a meal, which says plenty. We liked the pension enough to come back a second time. It's great for winter sports, with the pistes nearby and the main piste from Medvedev about a 300-meter walk away. Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, and there's storage for skis, snowboards, and boots. The one downside I can think of is that you need cash.

A big disappointment. The portions were small and the prices high. The potatoes had no taste, and the goulash for the children was spicy. I hope the food quality improves, but this felt like a fourth-rate inn. Never again.

A free ski bus stop is a five-minute walk away, and it goes to the slopes at Svjati Petr or Medvedin. There's also a ski rental right across from the guesthouse. The restaurant downstairs is good, and breakfast has plenty of choice, from cheese and cold cuts to sausages, porridge, boiled eggs, muesli, vegetables and fruit, plus coffee, milk, spreads, and jam. It's a small, charming place with clean but small rooms. Keep in mind that both the guesthouse and restaurant take cash only.
