That view is incredible! This is my favorite place, and I love this country.

We had an apartment for four, and with two little kids we were even able to borrow a sled for free. The guesthouse sits in a lovely spot overlooking the city and mountains. Breakfast is easy to add for a reasonable price, and there’s a very friendly contact person available around the clock who helped whenever we ran into a problem. The apartment could have used a few more things, though everything was supplied in sets of four. We got used to washing things as soon as we’d used them. We’d happily recommend the place. We left after just one night because the problems were too much. The kitchen wasn’t usable, as the stove didn’t work and there weren’t enough dishes. In the middle of winter, the beds had summer bedding and the rooms were cold overnight. The bathroom had no shower curtain or key. We’d arrived spontaneously in Spindleruv Mlyn and were quoted an exorbitant price at short notice. The decor looked outdated and tasteless as soon as we walked in. Even after we paid for the night, the caretaker insisted on calling the police. We were willing to wait, but the caretaker locked me and another woman inside for over an hour, until the police let us out. I strongly warn people against staying here.

Our apartment, number 6, was very spacious. For two nights, two adults, two children, and a dog, we paid €371, including a generous, tasty breakfast. It didn’t feel cheap, though not unreasonable either. Expecting the Czech Republic to be cheap can catch you out here, as it can elsewhere in Spindlermühlen. The guesthouse is above Spindlermühlen, about a five minute walk down to the center and eight minutes back uphill, especially after a full meal. It wasn’t kept immaculately, but it also wasn’t dirty or run-down. The furnishings weren’t new designer pieces, just the sort of interior that felt right for a ski resort chalet. Bring waterproof slippers or flip-flops, or you’ll be walking barefoot. In winter, the Apollo would be hard to drive without snow chains or four-wheel drive.
