Hotel Vydra

We had a great party stay here, 22 of us celebrating a birthday, and everyone had somewhere comfortable to sleep. The hotel is self-service, so there isn't staff around, and you use the facilities provided. We booked Formanka as our own common room. The kitchen beside it is shared with other hotel guests, and on the other side there's a large ballroom that worked well as a dance floor, with access to an outdoor grill area. The building is huge and rather empty, and when we first arrived it reminded me of the Overlook hotel from The shining, thankfully without Jack Torrance. There's no reception, so finding your way around is up to you. Bedrooms were comfortable and had mini-fridges; there was also a kettle and Nespresso capsules to use in the kitchen. The room doors use cards, so be careful not to leave yours inside and lock yourself out. We did, and had to bother the landlady a few times. I booked two nights directly with Moni, who was lovely, responsive, and spoke good German. She stayed friendly and patiently explained things each time we called. The kitchen has lots of glasses, cutlery, pots and pans, plus two dishwashers. There are ping-pong and table football tables too. Sauna use costs extra, and the jacuzzi was out of order. It's a very quiet little village, so bring your groceries. Srni has only a tiny supermarket and it isn't always open. There was lots of snow during our stay, so we spent most of the time at the hotel, and took a very nice forest walk to a wolves park. A really good place for a group party.
