Růžovka (ULJ100)

The location is wonderful, and the young mother who showed us the place and lives next door was very pleasant and ready to offer advice. The children loved the animals, and it was quiet. We came as 7 families to catch up after 15 years, and for that purpose it worked really well. There was space to sit and grill, the kids had things to enjoy, and every room had its own bathroom. The upkeep let it down. Cleaning was so lax I’m not sure it could be called cleaning, and there was a real jumble outside. Looking out the window, we saw old equipment swallowed by grass, with things left lying or standing wherever they’d been dropped.

The setting is the best part: a gorgeous area with donkeys, goats and sheep, and the children had a wonderful time. The price for what you get is good, and the place itself and its surroundings are nice. If the issues I mention don't bother you, it's still worth visiting. What lowered my rating was mostly communication. The owner seemed rushed and busy, and I wanted a warmer, kinder exchange. Her replies were brief and quick, and I felt I shouldn't ask questions. I later contacted her after the stay, and that conversation was just as fragmented. Maybe that works for her, but I expect something different. We also knew the owners and the owner's father would be on the property, as the listing said. The owner was nice, but over a longer stay I felt I'd rather rent a cottage where we're on our own. There was also a dog kept in a pen for days. As a dog owner, I felt sorry for him, though I can't judge the situation. Those two things would rule it out for me next time. A few practical issues came up as well. The showers were known to leak, but we weren't told, so showering left the bathroom flooded. We also had one day without hot water, likely because of poor communication, and that's unpleasant with small children. No one mentioned there was a toilet downstairs. We spent all 4 nights going upstairs, including when my children were asleep there in the evening. I only learned about the downstairs toilet as we were leaving. These things were manageable, but still disappointing.

A lovely, secluded cottage, furnished really well.

With the fireplace going and snow outside, this place is especially lovely in winter.
