AKZENT Hotel Johannisbad

We chose this hotel for an overnight road trip because we couldn’t find a better option nearby, and we already had a rough idea of what to expect from earlier reviews. The breakfast was OK, with both sweet and savory choices, and the hotel is quite close to the highway. The hotel itself is very old and worn, though, and our room felt tired in every way. We heard some rooms have been renovated, so perhaps we were unlucky. Our room was on the third floor, but the elevator only reached the second, and there was no staff member available to help with our heavy bags. It was also very hot up there, with no air conditioning. Parking fills up when the hotel is busy: we got the last space, while later arrivals had to find paid street parking. The water in the room was charged. There’s a restaurant in the hotel, but it closes very early, as seems generally to be the case in Germany.

I booked through Ledger holidays. The hotel is old but lovely and well maintained. The three-course evening meal was good value, breakfast was plentiful, and the staff were helpful.

We got a good rate for what was included, and I’d stay here again. The corner room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom modern. Breakfast was adequate, with eggs cooked to order. Parking was a bit tight, but not a real problem. A nice location and a classic hotel.

The staff were VERY kind and helpful, and the room was more spacious than I’d expected. We only stayed one night, but I would’ve liked to have had more time. The hotel is right across from the lovely Kurpark, and the Therme is about a 15-20 minute walk away. There was a strange smell from the bathroom. I mentioned it at checkout so the staff could look into it. If we’d stayed longer, I might have asked to move rooms.
