K1 my second home

When we first arrived in Munich, we were placed in a student apartment. The owners' photos made the room look much larger than it was, and we weren't allowed to view the apartment beforehand despite asking repeatedly. The room was actually very small. The shared kitchen was cleaned only once a week and wasn't kept neat or hygienic. It had just one dishwasher, a tiny space assigned in the refrigerator, and one microwave. Later, the owner said the second-floor apartment was more spacious, but that turned out to be misleading. The room wasn't spacious, the bed was extremely small despite assurances it would be larger, and there was a visible crack in the wall. It did have a large balcony, but that was no practical use to us. We faced many challenges during our stay and a clear lack of transparency. The rent felt disproportionately high for a student apartment with a shared kitchen: €1240 at first, rising to €1350 after moving to the second floor. With the misleading information, poor living conditions, and what I felt was unjustified, this was one of my worst housing experiences in Munich.

The staff were the best part of our nearly year-long stay in the studio apartment. They were always friendly, approachable, and ready to help. Checking in was easy too: the registration machine outside the building gave us a key card in under five minutes. We chose the smaller of the two room types, a studio designed for two. It was a good place to start our life in Munich, but after a while the cozy space felt confining. I'd suggest it for shorter stays, perhaps no more than three months, unless you're living alone. The price was on the high side at 1690€/ month, though being able to end the contract at any time was reassuring. The location worked well for us. A bus stop right outside connects to both the S-Bahn and U-Bahn, and there's a store and pharmacy about a five-minute walk away. I worked from home, and the internet was unreliable: some days it worked great, other days not at all, so I had to use my own data several times. You could work downstairs in the lobby or at one of the nearby cafes. The building has an elevator, ground-floor rooms, and an accessible toilet in the lobby, though the exit door can be heavy to open. Smoking isn't allowed inside, but there's a smoking area next to the entrance. Many families lived in the building, though I wouldn't recommend a long stay for families because the rooms are small. The basement laundry room costs 3€/use and has three washing machines and dryers. You can also hang clothes to dry if there's space.

The room was always clean and quiet, and it seemed almost completely soundproof. The front desk women were lovely, too. We stayed for three months at the end of 2024 while I was sorting out my visa, and the owner gave me a specific mailbox to use as my legal address. There aren't many available, so check first if you need one for a visa. At €1,700 a month it wasn't cheap, but it worked perfectly when I couldn't rent an apartment before getting my visa. The one-room setup felt a bit cramped after three months, though it was a charming first taste of living in Germany. We still get nostalgic when we pass by on the 55 bus, and I'd definitely recommend it.

I've lived here for almost a year and a half. The apartments are comfortable, and when something needs fixing, they take care of it right away. The manager and staff are friendly and responsible. I'd recommend it.
