Augustenhof

The room was roomy, but chilly. The radiators seemed too small for it, and the nice-looking curtains didn't do much to keep the warmth in. Getting inside with the access code was a good idea and worked just fine. Breakfast was tasty and nicely laid out, with what you need to start the day. The hotel is handy for getting around Bad Elster, since the essentials are an easy walk away. There was plenty of parking when we were there, at least over the weekend. I'd recommend visiting Bad Elster.

We'd gladly stay here again and head to the thermal baths. They're an easy walk away, along with the spa gardens, around 5 to 10 minutes at most. The guesthouse was bright, clean, and lovely. Our room was quiet and roomy, and had a small fridge. Breakfast was worth having, with plenty of variety and something for everyone.

Getting used to the entrance code took a little time, but it worked out fine. Everything else is easy to reach on foot, and we had a pleasant stay. The guesthouse was lovely, the rooms clean and tidy, and breakfast had choices from sweet to savory. They were happy to handle special requests, and the staff were friendly.

I booked two single rooms for my daughter and me at the Augustenhof Hotel through Booking.com, for June 18th to 20th, 2025. The booking allowed free cancellation up to three days beforehand. Then on June 16th, 2025, at 1 p.m., I had a serious accident and complicated forearm fracture that needed surgery. I'm expected to be home until the end of September. My daughter helped me during the first few days, since I live alone, thankfully. I wrote to both Augustenhof Hotel and Booking.com around 7 p.m. that day. Booking.com replied that they were sorry but couldn't do anything. So much for service and goodwill. I called several more times, but never reached the manager, and nobody called me back. Booking.com got the money from PayPal on June 14th and passed it to Augustenhof Hotel on June 17th. The only answer I got from Booking.com was that it was being processed. I even tried to sort it out by phone while abroad, where everything was spoken in English, which unfortunately I couldn't understand. I asked both companies for some goodwill and got nothing, not even a partial refund. I also contacted PayPal. After looking at the information, they told me the service had been provided. Something bad can happen in those three days before a trip, as it did to me. Be careful about who and what you book, and remember travel cancellation insurance. You can't expect goodwill these days. I'll never book through Booking.com again and will avoid Augustenhof altogether. I've got travel cancellation insurance now, so I'm covered. Have a good time and stay healthy! 🍀
