BergBuddies Oberjoch

I needed a room at short notice, so I called on a Friday in the middle of ski season. The staff found one for me that very day. They’re incredibly friendly and cheerful, and the hotel is great: new, spotless rooms, a fantastic breakfast, and a brilliant location. At first, I was a little put off by having no reception on site and doing everything online, but it turned out to be very easy and straightforward. I can imagine some older guests might be skeptical, though. The reception was always reachable by phone, friendly, and very competent. I highly recommend the hotel and would gladly stay again.

The common room is a great place to heat up food you’ve brought, cook, play games with the family, or meet people. The hiking route wall with QR codes linking to komoot is a lovely touch, and the neighboring hotel’s activity program, which is partly free, and discounted spa access are brilliant too. BergBuddies made for a perfect stay in Oberjoch. Everything is modern and digital, from the information before arrival to check-in, check-out, and the room key, which means no key or card to carry around. The rooms are beautifully furnished, with plenty of storage for backpacks and gear. There’s a real focus on quality and sustainability, and the breakfast buffet was excellent, varied, fresh, and sourced as sustainably as possible. We’d love to return. Oberjoch and the surrounding area offer something for everyone, from hiking beginners like us to experienced hikers and families, with plenty right on the doorstep. Highly recommended!

The rooms are spacious and the breakfast is good, so the hotel itself is fine. But the price is nowhere near good value. The service and management, though, deserve minus ten stars. I made a mistake about the rate for one night and underpaid for one room after we left, because I’d booked the other room for almost €200 less. That was my fault. The total is now over €1000 for two nights and three rooms, which felt more like a youth hostel. The hotel across the street might have been worth that price. But on the second night, for reasons I can’t explain, we couldn’t get into our rooms. Our key card had been blocked at 1 a.m. We waited 1.5 hours in freezing temperatures until someone from the Panorama Hotel happened to be there and got us out of the mess. These things can happen, but instead of understanding and admitting their mistake, they kept up the dunning process they’d already started over the payment and brushed off the blocked card in the middle of the night with an absurd explanation. They could at least have considered lowering the price. Before that, they’d said, hypocritically, “we’ll definitely find a solution.” It felt like all they cared about was money, and the guest was simply out of luck with the blocked card. Completely unacceptable. To be clear, I’m not complaining that the room still hadn’t been paid for. My issue is how they handle situations that are unpleasant for the hotel. They ask for feedback, so here it is: the room is fully paid now, but they’ll never see us again. I wouldn’t recommend this place. There are better and cheaper hotels in the area.

That room was a real surprise for the price, easily one of the best I've had. I recently stayed at a four-star hotel that didn't even leave a bottle of water in the room, apparently to save money. Here, I can't find a thing to complain about.
