Vogtshof

The hosts were incredibly kind, and the accommodation was spotlessly clean with everything we needed, including a stove, oven, refrigerator, and television. It’s a peaceful place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On foot, it’s about 1 km to the castle waterfall and 6 km to Glaswaldsee lake. Schapbach is a 45-minute walk away, while Bad Rippoldsau takes about 20 minutes via a lovely little trail along the mountain, which is also easy to reach by bicycle. We highly recommend it.

The farm is surrounded by beautiful forest and was just right for us as hikers. Children and dogs are welcome, and we had a wonderful time. The owners were friendly and gave us a warm welcome. It is a little off the beaten path, with the nearest shops about a 10-minute drive away. Each apartment has Wi-Fi, parking, and a kitchen-living room, plus a useful list of local shops and restaurants with addresses. We'd love to return.

We’re very happy with our stays at the Vogtshof, and this was our second time there. The Schmid family are wonderful hosts, always ready for questions or a chat. The apartments have everything you need, plenty of space, and a lovely forest view, along with that Black Forest charm. There’s also a playground and barbecue area on the farm. Set between Wolfach and Freudenstadt, it makes a good base for hikes and day trips around the region. We really enjoy the Black Forest from here and will definitely be back.

Apartment 1 was spacious, clean, and generally in very good condition, though I missed having a microwave. The stove’s well-maintained cooktops are rather old-fashioned and could use an upgrade to ceramic. Internet was another issue: bring an LTE dongle if you need a reliable connection. You can see the tower, but the house Wi-Fi only worked in the bathroom and hallway, and to a lesser extent in the kitchen. There was little or no signal in either bedroom or on the balcony. The setting is described online as “idyllic,” but it’s also just 30 meters from the main road as the crow flies. Motorcyclists use it a lot on weekends and holidays, and weekday rush hour traffic means you won’t need an alarm clock. Groceries take planning too. Schapbach has a small supermarket 5 km away for essentials, but the nearest Edeka, Aldi, or Lidl is in Freudenstadt, 19 km away, or Hausauch, 25 km away. Otherwise, that’s another 30 minutes each way. On the plus side, the Vogtshof is a great starting point for beautiful local hikes.
