Breakfast alone was the best I’ve had at a European hotel, by far. There were around 8 kinds of muesli, fresh ginger juice shots and a waffle maker, plus a separate spread for children when families were staying. Lunch and dinner menus changed daily, afternoon tea, coffee and cakes were included at 3pm, and the chefs made even foods I usually avoid, like quinoa, taste fantastic. A local man told me this was the best food in town, and he was right. Dinner is optional, but I’d strongly recommend adding it. Full board is the way to go. We spent four nights here, with a panoramic view from our room over the frozen lake and snowy hills. The spa was one of the best I’ve ever visited, with lots of space, plenty of rooms and therapies, nearly all without extra charges, and more than 10 rooms in the sauna area. That area is textile-free, so nudity is normal, though you can cover up with a towel if you prefer. The service was silver service throughout, and the staff were sincere, warm and friendly. Stephan, the restaurant manager, was perfect for the role, and Alfarid, Francesco, Sophie and Audrey looked after us so well. The family who own the place clearly care about the details. Our gowns had room-number badges, and there were handy side tables in the dining room. We’d gladly stay here again if we return to this beautiful natural setting.

The breakfast buffet was really good. The evening was less pleasant: the fire alarm went off for no apparent reason, and 2 of the 3 saunas were out of order, leaving the last one understandably crowded.

Antje made the stay so comfortable for my 4-month-old baby Paul and me. I’d worried that traveling with such a young baby might be inconvenient, but everything had been arranged to make us feel at ease. We also really liked having several pools and different places to relax with some privacy. The staff everywhere were lovely and smiling. Great accommodation and service, a really good stay.

The food from the menu was gorgeous, but the table and the lack of attention took away from it. As guests from outside the hotel, we were put at the far end by an open, drafty window and the only pillar along the wall of windows. Our table for two was the smallest available, even though all the other tables around us were much larger and also set for two. It felt very strange and wasn’t what I expected. I won’t be back anytime soon, and I’m telling other locals about the experience too.
