The owner is nice, and the location is great, but make sure you communicate clearly with him about where you'll be staying. There are two buildings. The one in the photos is the main house, but if it's full, he may put you in an older building that's being renovated. Our room and kitchen were okay, but the bathroom felt like it belonged to another century. We thought we'd booked the house shown in the pictures, and nobody told us about the other one, which isn't shown in the listing. I don't know whether the nicer house costs more. Breakfast was good, but we waited about an hour. Guests from the second house came into our kitchen and took our place, which was annoying and delayed our trip home. We hadn't been told there might be a wait because someone else had our spot. If you're in a hurry, say clearly that you can't wait.

Gernot came over to ask if we needed help when we were feeling stranded in Schmilka. We'd arrived on foot after a long hike, couldn't find a bed, and had no cash. Nobody else we'd met in town would take a credit or debit card for food or a room. He brought us to his cute B&B, told us not to worry, and said we could send the money by bank transfer once we had internet the next day. What a great guy, the hospitality was incredible.

The location was nice, and we had a great stay. Breakfast was very good too. We did feel the price was a little high for what you get compared with other places we've stayed.

A cozy little hotel in a beautiful setting, with a kind and helpful host. It was very good value for money, and we'll definitely return.
