We had a friendly welcome and great service, and breakfast in the Bavarian-style restaurant was lovely. I stayed in the Anton suite in late September 2024. It was huge, with a separate living area and bedroom, a large modern bathroom, and charming original details. The small hotel has modern, newly renovated rooms from 2023. What a great place, would definitely recommend it!

The booking price issue made for a frustrating month before we arrived. We had booked for two and kept a screenshot, but the email confirmation said one person. Booking.com and the hotel confirmed the different prices for one and two adults. It seemed we had paid the intended one-adult price even though Booking.com had listed two, and Booking.com wouldn't adjust it. The hotel charged the higher price on arrival, as they'd told us in advance, an extra 200.80 EUR. The amount seemed fair for what we got, so I didn't feel cheated, but I felt in principle that I should have been able to pay the price shown in my evidence. I blame Booking.com and haven't taken stars off the hotel. Our room, the “Anton Suite”, was spacious and looked recently refurbished. It was up two flights of stairs, which was fine for us, but I don't think there's an elevator. Breakfast was nice in a large dining room. I saw it serving hotel guests breakfast; based on other reviews it may also operate as a small restaurant for certain events or days. The woman running the inn seems to handle everything, from the office and room tidying to cooking and landscaping. She isn't there around the clock, so reception isn't always staffed, but she was lovely and suggested places to visit. The church next door rings every hour, including overnight, and frequently on Sunday morning, presumably for service. It didn't bother us, and the double windows reduced some of the noise. I found it charming. Parking was free; we used the lot out front, which had about ten spaces, on both visits. I couldn't tell from the German signs whether it was for this hotel or not, but we had no trouble. Bäd Tolz is a charming town. Late September seemed an ideal time to visit, and we were lucky with the weather.

The suckling pig was a letdown. For the price, I expected a proper portion, but what arrived was mediocre and left me hungry. Portion size has never been an issue for me in Bavaria. Then another table ordered the same thing and got twice as much, two dumplings instead of one and three slices of meat instead of one and a half. The food quality was poor too, and the salad was like the prepacked kind from a gas station. Avoid it, there are much better places nearby. I was drawn in because it was the only restaurant listed in the Lonely Planet guide.

The location in central Tölz is perfect, and the price is certainly high by local standards. Still, I felt welcome and at ease, and think the place is worth it. I'd gladly return. This is a distinctive suite hotel, quite different from what you might expect in a large hotel. The suites have an open living and sleeping area without a dividing door, while the shower and toilet are separated behind a door. The furnishings are elegant, carefully coordinated, and high quality. Service is friendly and confident, and breakfast is tasty and thoughtfully put together. Egg dishes can be ordered in different styles, which makes sense since everything is fresh and nothing goes to waste. The stairs may be difficult if you have trouble walking, as there is no elevator. If you're reasonably mobile, reaching the second floor should be manageable, and help with luggage is offered.
