Amadeus Hostel Berlin

On New Year’s Eve, the staff were clearly under pressure from the big influx of guests, but the conditions were unacceptable in every way. The hostel sits in a rundown backyard, beside a dilapidated backstreet club whose noise could be heard even in the rooms farther away. Inside, the rooms were filthy and reached through a dim hallway packed with mattresses and junk. The mattresses had used linens on them and looked like they’d been used to mop the floor. The room stank of smoke. The hygiene in the bathrooms was appalling too: the sinks in the dirty showers were covered in scat and then simply smothered with plastic sheeting, while the toilets were horribly smelly and looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in a year. This is the worst and most disgusting place I’ve ever seen.

The hallways are much too dark and feel gloomy, and free internet is only available in one part of the hostel. I’ve been staying at the Amadeus Hostel for a few weeks as a long-term guest, though, and so far my experience hasn’t matched the negative reviews. The staff are friendly and speak both German and English. My room is clean, and the cleaning is okay. Breakfast and lunch are inexpensive and good, even if I don’t always like the food.

This hostel is uncomfortable, run-down, and dirty. The owners force employees to work for starvation wages without employment contracts. Absolutely don’t stay here. Boycott it!

The hallways, rooms, and carpet are filthy. I’ve seen plenty, but never conditions this unacceptable. You’d think the authorities responsible for hygiene and building inspections would have shut this dump down by now, unless Berlin has no such authority. I strongly advise against booking here. It’s a disgrace to Berlin!
