The café downstairs was a pleasant place to sit for as long as we wanted, even with our own food and drinks. Reception staff were helpful and friendly, and one employee spoke Polish, which made check-in and sorting out issues much easier. The heating worked well too, making the room very warm at its highest setting. Getting around was easy: the center was a few bus stops away, the metro fairly close, and there was a well-stocked grocery store right in the building. The area felt calm and relatively safe, without many aggressive or unstable people. The rooms were a letdown. There were three of us and just one small hanger. The school-like lockers were loud, cramped, and one had a broken handle. None could be locked. Outlets were scarce and awkwardly placed: two by one bed, two behind a locker that were hard to reach, and three by the trash bin. There was no real table, just a small plastic one, and no mirror, TV, or other amenities. The heavy doors slammed loudly unless held, and with so many people on the floor, they kept banging day and night and made it hard to fall asleep. The room trash also didn't seem to get emptied. By our last day, the bin was overflowing. Bathroom facilities were another problem. The floor had only two men's toilets and two urinals, which would mean queues in a busy season. There was no soap in the toilet near our room, so we had to wash up in the bathroom at the other end of the floor. That one smelled strongly of sewage, and its sink drained very slowly or not at all. Only one of the three or four men's showers had warm water. I didn't realize at first, and the women's area was the only place I found with hot water. The clothing hooks were positioned so badly that shower spray soaked anything hung there. There were no shelves, so belongings had to go on the floor or in another stall if it was empty. The website showed a kitchen and lounge, but one kitchen on our floor had become a cleaning room and the other was closed. Signs to the kitchen were covered up. We had to buy cups, plates, and cutlery ourselves, and couldn't make tea or coffee or heat food, so we relied on snacks and dry food. At most, I'd suggest this hostel for a single night to sleep. A longer stay without a working kitchen felt extremely uncomfortable, more like a dormitory without proper service.

The location is really nice, and the price is good, except during festivals when it doubles. Reception is open around the clock, the staff were lovely, and the rooms were clean with super-comfy beds. A towel was included and the place felt safe. The water was sometimes not warm enough. Bring earplugs and an eye mask. I also enjoyed the matcha, chai, drinks, and cakes.

The bathroom area is functional and pleasant, and the beds are fine. But the room was noisy with the window even slightly open, which you need when several people are sleeping in one bedroom. I could hear someone snoring loudly even through noise-canceling headphones. When I asked reception to move me, the guy replied condescendingly, “it's a hostel bro.” I know that, and I've stayed in plenty of hostels. He did move me, but his attitude left a bad taste. Other things were frustrating too. The lockers are very loud and the poorly designed doors slam constantly. Scanning the card to get into the room takes longer than you'd expect. Checkout dragged on because they have to “validate” your departure, and the receptionist got distracted by another guest partway through, so I couldn't leave quickly. It's a modern hostel, but those issues got in the way.

Getting into the city center was easy, with lots of public transport nearby. The hostel was very clean, reception was open 24/7, and the staff were kind at all times. They provided free Wi-Fi. My only downsides were that there was no fridge or hair dryer in the rooms.

The rooms were clean and the staff were great. Coffee Inn Hostel Berlin is very budget-friendly and good value in Berlin. They also stored our luggage, which was really handy when checking in early or leaving late. A great choice for travelers.
