Cheap, clean, with nice breakfasts and friendly staff. My only complaint, and why I gave it four stars, is that our room was seven flights of stairs up and there’s no lift. After a long day walking around Berlin’s many sights, that took away from the appeal.

The building has that grand, neighborly feel you get in old West Berlin, and the place is tucked far enough from traffic to stay peaceful. It feels like a traditional Berliner pension, just unusually bright, clean, and well cared for. The guys running it are lovely. I’d happily recommend it.

A very bare-bones old rooming house. We had to climb two flights to reach the lobby, and it wasn’t lit at night. There was no air conditioning, and the tiny pillow made it impossible to sleep. I paid €235, then another €180 to cancel the second night. We found a much nicer hotel nearby and got a great room there.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the building is nice. Breakfast was just right, and they supplied soap and towels as well. Good value for the money.

The room was small and breakfast was meager. The guy at reception called my mobile and asked me to come back to the room because he wanted to go get food. I hadn’t eaten in 24 hours myself. There are probably worse places, but you can definitely find somewhere better for the same price.
