Garner Hotel Berlin Messe by IHG

The garden and terrace gave the hotel a peaceful feel, and even though it’s near the S-bahn, I didn’t find it noisy or disturbing. Breakfast had enough variety to keep me satisfied over several days. The rooms and the rest of the hotel were clean and well kept, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay. It’s a lovely, cosy place, and I’d happily recommend it.

The rooms are simple, tidy, and clean, and there’s a small front garden with mature, aromatic trees. The scent is fantastic. There’s no kettle, though.

I’d prepaid for two standard rooms, but was given two economy rooms instead. When I asked the receptionist working the night of October 2-3, 2025, to change them to what I’d booked, he started shouting that there were no rooms available instead of apologizing. The rudest treatment I’ve ever had at a hotel.

The hotel dealt with the problems well afterward, and I accept that mistakes can happen. The only positives for us were the location and breakfast. We’d paid for a 2 p.m. late checkout, but at exactly noon the house maid woke us and told us to leave right away. We explained several times that late checkout was included, but she didn’t believe us. We went to reception, where the receptionist said he or the system had failed to tell the house maid. He said we could put a “DO NOT DISTURB CARD” on the door. When we were already about to leave, he offered a soft drink as compensation and another 30 minutes. After being woken so abruptly and made to feel unwelcome, an extra half hour at that hotel didn’t make any difference. They should understand that. We’d also paid before arrival for a 0.75 l bottle of water in the room. There was no sparkling water there, so I had to carry it up myself, then ask for glasses and carry those up too. Not a great start.
