Hotel Augusta

I had a really lovely stay here. The quiet street meant I could sleep peacefully, and my room felt relaxing, with simple but elegant decor and a large, super soft bed that was perfect after a long flight. I also used the laundry service, which was quick and efficient, and had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It exceeded my expectations, especially the grilled salmon. From the moment I walked into the lobby, the design and friendly, professional staff made the place feel comfortable. I’d absolutely book again.

I accidentally made two reservations for the same day, and they refused to refund one of them. The hotel might be great, but the customer service and ethics are zero. Keep that in mind before booking.

The photos showed a nice room with a city view and an Old Town style, but the reality didn’t match what I expected. The furniture was old and the room dirty. The table had some disgusting dried dirt on it, like dried snot, and there was a very unpleasant smell, as if the carpet were burnt or badly stained. In my first room, the windows faced an inner courtyard that was basically just walls, which was really disappointing. I asked reception to change rooms as soon as I saw it. They let me look at another one, which was only slightly better: the smell wasn’t as bad and the window view was nicer. I had booked a double comfort room, not just a single or double, and it still had so many flaws. That evening, the shower drain didn’t work at all, so water collected and I had to stand in dirty water. There was a TV, but only a few random local channels. The hotel Wi-Fi showed as “saved” but wouldn’t connect, so I couldn’t use YouTube or Netflix. I asked reception to send someone to check it, but nobody came and nothing was fixed. On the second day, when I went to talk about the TV, cleaning, and luggage, the man at the front desk told me in a passive aggressive way that I “had too many questions.” After a long, exhausting flight I was trying to rest, but at around 9:30 someone burst into my room and woke me up completely. I don’t know if they were there to clean or for something else. Later I told reception I’d be out until the evening and specifically asked them to clean while I was away. They said they would, but when I got back the room was still dirty, and the coffee and water hadn’t been replenished. There was only one soap and one shampoo, nothing else. To reach the elevator I had to drag my 25 kg suitcase up a bunch of stairs. Before leaving Berlin for a two-day trip to a nearby town, I asked if I could leave my suitcase at the hotel and pick it up on my return day before going to the airport. They categorically refused, saying they’d only hold luggage for a few hours. I’d never had this problem at other hotels. The only good thing was that, on the first day, a nice girl at reception helped carry my 25 kg suitcase up to the third floor.

The rooms are in a separate building, and finding my way there felt like going through a maze, so I have mixed feelings about the place. The cleanliness and customer service more than made up for that. Everything was spotless and smelled great. They cleaned, vacuumed, and sanitized the carpets every morning. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful; one woman even carried my heavy suitcase to my room, and the Polish man was very helpful too. They are amazing!
