Hotel Chateau Kurfuerstendamm

The staff were friendly, but this definitely doesn't feel like a four-star hotel, and it wasn't especially clean. The bathtub was blocked with old hair and clearly hadn't been cleaned. The walls are thin, so you hear everything from the next room and may not sleep well if someone's staying there. Rooms get very hot, there's no AC, and the bed isn't comfortable.

The room was comfortable and clean, and the location worked well: about a ten-minute walk to the train station or three minutes to the bus stop, with plenty of food choices around. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. We mostly dealt with Gvansta, an awesome receptionist who made us feel welcome and chatted with us during our stay. She helped us figure out what to do, where to eat and drink, and how to get around on public transport.

For the price, I'd recommend it to budget travelers who want something beyond a hostel or very cheap hotel. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Berlin, and reception staff are really friendly and helpful. The lift, rooms and lobby are a bit dated, but not bad. It's about what I'd expect from a low-end three-star hotel and works fine for a couple of nights. Breakfast is average with limited choices, and the breakfast area staff weren't as good as reception. Anyone looking for a real four- or five-star stay should avoid booking here.

I've stayed here several times on work trips to Berlin and will be back in a month or two. It's centrally located, about a ten-minute walk from the Zoological Park, and good value. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, though the decor is a little dated. They have what you need, including a safe, fridge, TV, Aircon and tea and coffee. Bathrooms are clean and have hand and shower gel and a hairdryer. An anti-slip bath mat would be useful for showering. Breakfast is continental with a small selection of hot items, a good start to the day. Staff are all welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.
