Steps Hotel Berlin

A basic, hostel-style hotel near public transport, with easy connections to different parts of Berlin. Breakfast was simple and just okay, nothing special, but the service was good.

Good value for the money, with friendly staff and easy access to the centre. The breakfast was basic, and the only hot item was hard-boiled eggs. There was noise and cigarette smoke in the courtyard at night, and the shared hallway lights stayed on, shining under the room door along with noise. That lack of quiet was annoying, though it’s mainly down to other guests rather than the hotel. It seems better suited to party groups. Still, the price for what you get is great.

I stayed a few days while I was in Berlin for a concert, and I can’t fault the place. The price was decent, and my basic room still felt homely. It can get noisy some nights because there are bars nearby, so bring earplugs. The area is okay, but stay alert and streetwise. The staff are very helpful and super friendly.

The staff were extremely kind and helpful, and they let us check in early after we arrived from the plane. We stayed one night in a room on the top floor. It’s quite a hike to get up there, so keep that in mind when booking. The room felt clean, and we never noticed anyone else sharing the washroom with us. There’s a cute courtyard and an indoor seating area that would’ve been nice to see more of, but we were too jet-lagged.
