The restaurant has a lovely spot overlooking the river, which makes the stay disappointing. The hotel feels like it hasn't been updated in 50 years. The room itself was fine, though it had carpet, and even with a double bed I got only one duvet because I booked for one person on a business trip. My feet were left uncovered. The desk I had to use often wasn't comfortable either. Worse, while I was at work, housekeeping left my door open with my laptop and luggage inside. They apologized, and I accepted, but I'll choose another hotel next time.

Free parking right outside was handy, and the hotel was good enough for a few days. I stayed three nights. The family service was ordinary, but they were friendly and helpful with questions and requests. Housekeeping was a bit rude when I hadn't put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. It was my fault that she came in without permission.

We came as a family of four with our six-month-old for lunch and a view of the Weser, and had the worst experience I've ever had in Germany. We arrived at 1:45. The waitress took our drink order, brought the drinks, but never gave us menus. When we asked, she said the kitchen closed at 2. I pointed out we'd sat down right at 1:45 and no one had told us, but she just said the kitchen was closed. Her attitude was so casual about it that I asked for the manager, who was even ruder. He said I must not go to restaurants much if I thought I could order at 1:45 when the kitchen closed at 2. He wouldn't give me his name, though I later found out he was Herr Wenke. I've travelled all over the world and have never been treated like that. Avoid this place if you expect customer service, whether you're eating there or staying at the hotel.

Brake makes a worthwhile stop, with its interesting history and lovely 19th-century ship-chandler buildings, some still active. Beside the hotel there's a little park, a shipping museum, and a tourist information centre. A ferry for walkers and cyclists runs regularly across the river. On my trip, this was the best hotel I stayed at. The family-run place sits right on the Weser, and I had a quiet room with a river view. It was clean and comfortable, with nice woodwork, a small desk, a large TV, and a very tidy bathroom. I watched ships go by, mostly sailing boats at the time, including a tall ship. Breakfast had plenty of tasty options, and they can make eggs however you like. The hotel sometimes holds special events, such as a large breakfast that people book online. Check the website for details, and book ahead. The restaurant serves good food, with outdoor seating when the weather allows. A good stop wherever you're travelling.

Right by the Weser, with a great view. The staff are polite, funny, and welcoming. The food looks as good as it tastes. The goat cheese especially was way better than supermarket quality, and came with whole-wheat bread. I recommend it.
