What made this one-night stay feel so welcoming was the warm, friendly service. It was almost like being a guest at someone's home. The staff took great care with the continental breakfast buffet, which had plenty of interesting things to try, and you could order eggs too, including scrambled, fried, or an omelette with additions like bacon. The hotel's in a clean, quiet neighborhood beside a huge train station, with lots of little places to eat if you're adventurous with food. The station is less than a five-minute walk away. The hotel is small and older, but the price and location were a pleasant surprise. Our room, number 53, was spacious and comfortable, with a comfy bed and a large TV we didn't use. Getting there meant taking a two-person elevator and then a circular staircase, since it's right under the roof. That was fine in November, though it could be quite warm in summer. The shower water temperature changed quickly from cool to hot, perhaps unsurprising in a building dating from at least the 1950s. I also liked the carefully chosen decorations with their 1950s look. We were in Cologne for just one night to take care of something nearby, so I can't speak to a longer stay or the parking. I enjoyed my visit.

Room 45 had what looked like a serious bed bug problem. Two days ago I woke up intensely itchy and found several small brown bugs in the bed. I looked them up online and realized they were bed bugs. I've got over 100 bites and honestly look like I have chickenpox. I stay in hotels for work all the time and have never had anything like this happen. I really hope management takes it seriously and arranges immediate professional treatment and disinfection.

We loved how quiet the hotel was despite being so close to the station and cathedral. The room was small, but comfortable and very clean, and the breakfast buffet had lots of good quality choices, including eggs made to order. We didn't realize the front desk shut at 8pm, which isn't really a thing in Canada. Our train was delayed by several hours, and when we arrived late there was no way to get into the hotel, so we had to pay for a room elsewhere. The staff said the next morning that we'd been emailed instructions for an entry code, but I never got that email. It was mostly on us for missing the fine print, but arrange a late check-in if you're due to arrive after 8pm.

The location was nice, the bed comfortable, and breakfast very good. There were a few things that need attention: the bathroom lock was broken, and the shower temperature swung between too hot and too cold, so the regulator needs replacing. I couldn't find the iron that was listed in the booking description. They ask your nationality at registration, and a staff member might ask again at breakfast. I don't understand why they need to know that.

The breakfast buffet was a real highlight, with fresh bread and pastries and excellent eggs. The room was small, but clean and comfortable, and all the staff were lovely. They were very accommodating about us not speaking German.
