Drei Kronen

We've stayed here five times over the years, for several days at a time, and it's our go-to in Köln. It's an old-style hotel with a pleasant feel, and a nice change if you don't want a standard modern chain. The rooms are very nice, everything is clean, and the diligent, friendly staff make you feel welcome. There's a small elevator and a great breakfast. The layout isn't the best for a work trip, but it's a lovely place to stay while visiting this fabulous city on the Rhine. It's well located near the train, attractions, and other amenities in town.

We had spacious rooms near the station and cathedral, right by the river. It was very warm inside, and you pick up your room key from a locker by the door. People outside can be noisy, but closing the windows cuts the sound enough.

The rooms were clean, and the central location is amazing. It did get quite hot, and there was lots of noise from the street beside the hotel and the cafes. Check-in was contactless, and we didn't see staff for most of our stay, only at checkout. The person handling checkout was grumpy and not very nice, and didn't communicate with us.

The rooms are big and the location is wonderful, very close to the Central Station. It's not a fancy hotel, and breakfast is a regular European breakfast. If noise bothers you, be aware that sound insulation isn't good.
