Hotel Königshof The Arthouse

The staff were consistently polite and helpful, and my room was quite spacious. The location right in the centre was perfect. Cleanliness, though, could have been better.

The staff were great, and check-in was easy. Check-out took seconds. The hotel is right in the middle of town, just a short walk from the railway station. My room was massive, clean and a bit old, but spotless, and there were four big bottles of water. If you have young kids, it even has a bath.

We arrived around 11:49 PM 13/11/2025 after a long, exhausting trip and were met by a security guard who spoke to us in German. We didn’t understand, so we replied in English with “Sorry.” From then on, he was rude and aggressive toward me, my husband and my mother. He ordered us to sit, saying he “didn’t have time” because he was doing something else, though we had no idea what he meant. He seemed irritated and stressed the whole time, and we felt intimidated and uncomfortable. He mocked what we said. When he asked for passports, my husband handed over only his because he hadn’t understood that all three were needed. The guard yelled “All three!” in a disrespectful, aggressive tone. I asked his name because I wanted to know who I was dealing with, but the atmosphere stayed hostile. We’re now in our room feeling afraid and deeply upset. We never expected this treatment, especially after such a tiring journey. We absolutely disliked our stay because of this incident. It was the worst service we’ve ever experienced, and we’ll make sure people hear about what happened. The staff urgently need proper training. I’ve heard Germans can be very direct, but hotel reception staff should be polite and respectful with guests of different nationalities. We’re paying guests, and expect professional behavior and basic respect, even if the local style is more serious or reserved. The hotel itself is old and dirty. The shower didn’t work, there was only one towel in the bathroom on the first night, and the bathroom stank. It was a horror. The only good thing is the location, but even that doesn’t make it worth it. Better to pay a little more for somewhere clean, with everything working and friendly staff. Stay away if you don’t want to be disrespected!

The location is amazing, close to the cathedral, station, Rhine and all the Christmas markets. The rooms are basic and functional, though the beds could use replacing. The bathroom smelled of drains, but the housekeeper was really helpful.
