Leonardo Royal Hotel Cologne Bonn Airport

The room had no regular kettle, so the only way to heat water was through the coffee maker, which gives you very little. The hotel itself was clean and tidy. The shuttle was especially useful because the location is awkward without a car. The nearest stop is about 1 kilometer away, and getting there from the center involves transfers. I had booked to pay on arrival, and after my card was declined several times, the hotel told me I could pay when I got there. Even so, they charged the card before I arrived.

The rooms were comfortable and had what we needed to enjoy the stay. The hotel is near the airport but quite far from the city center, and its shuttle helped bridge that gap. It runs between the airport and hotel almost whenever you need it. The staff were the real standout. Ms. Aylin at reception was always willing to help and find a way to resolve any issue. We accidentally stopped at the Leonardo Hotel Cologne Bonn Airport, which is a different hotel, and waited 20 minutes before anyone came to the reception desk. This Leonardo hotel is new, in a quiet but rather remote area with no other buildings around. We were warmly greeted by the evening receptionist, who was Bulgarian like us, and liked the elegant decor. The rooms were very clean, with comfortable beds, and the buffet breakfast had plenty to choose from. We didn't have time to try the amenities, including the lounge billiard table.

The room itself was good, and reception did replace the broken duvet cover after we reported it. Still, the bathroom offered little privacy: the toilet had only a glass sliding door and no proper lock. We also couldn't get still water. Whenever we asked, we were given sparkling water instead. The nearest bus stop is far away, so getting around without a car was difficult. The shuttle was the biggest problem. We called several times to arrange pickup and followed reception's instruction to call only when we were ready. Then we stood outside for around 20 minutes in -2°C. The vehicle had no hotel logo and looked like a third-party taxi. The driver scolded us, saying he couldn't find us at the pickup point the hotel had given. After a long journey and waiting in the cold, that felt awful. There was no greeting, the driving seemed aggressive, and after dropping us off he was dismissive and disrespectful, even though the mix-up wasn't our fault. The room was comfortable, but the privacy issue, awkward location, and badly managed shuttle made the stay a lot less pleasant.
