Premier Inn Koeln City Centre Hotel

The second room seemed fine at first, but the hot water stopped again early in the morning, around 5 a.m. On my second night, another staff member kindly offered me a room on a different floor and admitted the lack of hot water on my original floor was a known problem. I appreciated her professionalism. The first room had no hot water, a barely attached toilet paper holder with just one screw, and heating/AC that didn’t work. I reported it and was told it would be fixed, but it wasn’t. At checkout, I raised the ongoing problems with another staff member and got only a shrug, with no apology or acknowledgment. Check-in had already been uncomfortable: although I had my German ID card, the Indian receptionist repeatedly told me to fill in the “foreigners” section of the form, then scrutinized my ID as if it were suspicious. After a long flight and delays, I found that unprofessional and lacking basic customer awareness. The place feels worn, poorly maintained, and overpriced. I stayed because most other hotels were booked or outside my price range. It needs significant maintenance and better staff training, and based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend it.

The location is good, a short walk from the Dom and not much farther from the city center. But parking advertised at the hotel amounts to just four spots, which were all taken. We had to use a garage 800 meters away that felt dodgy and had no staff. Our room was clean, but lacked things found in most hotels, like a telephone. The sink and shower drains both had problems and nearly flooded the bathroom. Junior staff were friendly. The manager and the man in the breakfast area, though, could use a hospitality course. Their blunt way of dealing with guests was unusual for a hotel. The location is a plus, but the room and service fell short. For this price I expected a better stay, and it left a sour taste. I won’t return.

Our Premier Plus room was spacious, modern, clean, and comfortable, better than rooms in many pricier hotels we’ve stayed at. The building looked recently renovated and had a lovely, clean reception area. The location was perfect, just a five-minute walk from the central station. We arrived five hours before check-in, but they stored our bags without any hassle. The gentleman at reception was lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend :)

Our room was clean and nice, and the hotel was quiet. There was a faint traffic hum, but only with the windows open. It’s a great Premier Inn, five minutes from the famous cathedral, beer halls, shops, and city life.
