Pallas Hotel

Reception hours are 7.00 to 17.00 Monday to Saturday, and until 14.00 on Sunday. When no one is there, you have to check in and get your key card through the machine, including a credit card payment step. The double room was clean and nice, with contemporary furniture. Single rooms have roof windows. There’s no refrigerator, and the local heating gets very warm, though you can adjust it. Espresso from the machine costs 1 euro.

The room was OK, though the bathroom was quite small. The skylight wouldn’t open, so the air felt a bit stuffy, and I could hear plane noise through it. The hotel was clean, but the self check-in counter wouldn’t take my colleague’s credit card, which was a first for him, so he had to use his personal one. It also seems to have trouble connecting with HRS: another guest apparently got my name after checking in with his reservation number, and I only found out when I overheard a discussion about the invoice as I was leaving in the morning. My own card was charged a 90% no-show fee for a reservation I’d made by mistake and cancelled two minutes later.

Penny Market is right beside the hotel, and there’s a nearby Burger King open 24 hours. The city centre is within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and speak English. It’s an affordable place with free TV and WiFi, though the WiFi sometimes doesn’t work.

We were treated badly and unkindly. The check-in machine malfunctioned, so we couldn’t check in, and nobody answered the phone even though they said they were available until 23.00. The receptionist cancelled our booking, but the hotel still charged us half the price for a room we never saw. There was no hospitality or customer care at all. Don’t go there.
