Eisenkrug

The rooms were very clean, but the rest of the experience was disappointing. At breakfast there were no cereals, and the tables were so sticky that the napkin stuck to ours. We didn't feel comfortable resting our arms on it. Dinner was dreadful: the meat and sauce were so extremely salty that I couldn't eat them, and I only managed the very hard, dried-out potatoes. There was no salad with dinner, unlike at every other restaurant we've visited. They refused to speak English, and weren't very friendly when you don't speak German.

The Keller had a very medieval feel, but I wouldn't eat there again. I ordered pumpkin soup and fish. The soup wasn't good, so I left it unfinished. The fish was okay, though they served it whole, with the head and bones, which made it too much work. They also didn't bring bread, which is usually served with soup.

Breakfast was okay, and the location was good and clean, but our stay in room number 3 had some real problems. The church bells rang very loudly at 6am each morning for almost ten minutes, waking us every time. The mattress and pillow were really bad, and after two nights we had back pain. The reception was unattended most of the time, and the evening receptionist was quite unfriendly. Our friends stayed in another room and didn't have the same issues.

The town is lovely, though I wish all cars were banned. Our room was okay, but the shower was tiny. Passing traffic was noisy, and so were the church bells, rung long and loud at 6 in the morning by what felt like a lunatic priest. I had to sleep with earplugs every night, which isn't my idea of a fun holiday.
