I first visited in 2016, and the hotel and spa are still just as beautiful. There’s also a new sustainable wing with the country’s largest sky pool. For couples, it’s the best place I’ve found in Germany. The food is outstanding, though expensive, and there are several restaurants, including one with a Michelin star. I ate at WeberStube and really enjoyed my meal. It’s family-run, and it was nice to see the next generation working there too.

The spa feels like an ancient Roman bath, and the restaurants and service are excellent. This hidden gem in Saxony is much more than a luxurious refuge or a basic four-star hotel. I’d go back, and plan to.

The stay itself was fine, and the spa was lovely. Dinner at the Italian restaurant Al Forno was good, but very expensive. Then the waiter offered us Grappa. I’d checked the menu beforehand, where the priciest option was 10 euros for 2cl. My friend and I each tried one of the three kinds he offered, just 2cl, and the bill came to 21 and 22 euros for those pours. I was shocked. He should have told us they weren’t the ones listed on the menu. That’s not acceptable. We also had drinks at the bar afterward, but the bartender left before we’d finished them. I don’t think that’s the right way to make money.

We had a wonderful time. The Blue Suite was amazing, with really soft, comfortable beds and pillows. Fresh towels arrived each morning and evening, and the treatments were great. Everything felt perfect.
