Schlaflounge

It’s small, personal, and feels like a proper hotel. The room was lovely and clean, with towels and everything we needed. The bathroom is shared with the few other guests, though we didn’t see or hear any of them.

We thought we’d booked a room with its own bathroom, but on arrival found out it was shared with another room. Looking back at the emails, Kathrin seems to have made an honest mistake. She wrote in English that the room had a bathroom “with one another room,” which we understood to mean the bathroom was located in another room, rather than shared with one. We called to ask about it, and that’s when things went wrong. Kathrin rudely told us there were no other rooms and that we had to pay the full booking amount. We never met her or stayed at the hotel, but she charged our card anyway. When we called again to sort it out, she yelled at us and said that since no one else had misunderstood her in 18 years, we must be at fault. I understand that honest misunderstandings happen, and we would have been willing to pay some or all of the cost. But it’s unacceptable, unprofessional, and unkind to treat customers rudely, as though they’re idiots who can’t understand their own language, when you made a mistake. Take your money and pride somewhere else, and stay away from Schlaflounge.

The two women who run this delightful place were very friendly. They served breakfast and were happy to chat if you wanted, and they catered well to special needs. Süddeutsche Zeitung and soy cappucino at breakfast! The hotel isn’t luxurious, but it’s modern, clean, and very well appointed. We spent two nights at this lovely boutique hotel in a quiet, chic part of Hamburg. It has just 6 rooms, so you can hear the kids in the next flat upstairs running around as they get ready for school in the morning. The location is great, just a few minutes from U-Bahn Christuskirche, which is only 4 stops from the central station.

We rented all 6 rooms for a fantastic three-night stay with the whole family.
