Hotel Senator

We spent two hours waiting outside, with no answer at the door and no reply to our Booking messages. Calling the listed number sent us to a New York line, where we sat on hold for more than 10 minutes. Customer service was no help. They said someone in Dortmund would meet us within 30 minutes, but nobody came. We called again, went through the same long hold, and were told someone would arrive within an hour. Nobody showed up then either. Two other people arrived while we were waiting and had the same problem. The area didn't feel ideal or safe while we were stuck outside. In the end we gave up and went to the nearby "a&o Hostel Dortmund Hauptbahnhof," where things went well. Later, our phone bill showed 70 euros for those calls to New York. We were billed for every second of more than 20 minutes of repetitive hold music. The way this was handled was unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend the place.

The staff were really nice and helpful, and the service was top notch. My room was comfortable and clean, and I slept well. Hotel Senator is also well located, within walking distance of the city. I can recommend it as a very good choice in Dortmund.

For the price, I’d definitely avoid this hotel next time. The sheets had marks from previous guests, and there was hair on the bed beside mine. I asked twice for the shampoo and body wash to be refilled, but neither was topped up. The receptionist didn't speak English. After 10pm reception closes, so there’s nobody on staff to contact in an emergency. Breakfast is served for just two hours, from 7 to 9am.

Customer service was very limited, and there was no breakfast buffet like the listing said. The room smelled odd, and the bathroom sink was clogged.
