Breakfast was good and felt fairly luxurious, though I wouldn’t call it “super deluxe,” and the service was fine. The main problem was how hot it got in both the rooms and hallways. At night, opening the window meant cannabis smells drifting up from downstairs. Our courtyard-facing room also let in a lot of noise from outside because the windows seemed poorly insulated. It felt like the hotel knew about these issues already, since we were given an upgrade and a free minibar as compensation.

Music went on until 2 a.m., so the room felt like a nightclub, and the receptionist was grumpy enough to belong in a Disney witch story. The bed smelled so strongly of smoke that waking up felt like waking in an ashtray, and I smelled like I’d spent the night in a smoky place. One of the two beds was broken, and nobody cleaned the room between our two nights. The bathroom and carpet seemed ready to grow mushrooms on your feet. I hadn’t felt like I was in a Southeast Asian backpackers’ hostel for years, until this stay.

The hotel is old and could use a renovation. I got an upgrade, but I’d hate to see what the standard room is like. There’s only public parking within walking distance, at 14€ a day. The street is noisy and the windows don’t insulate well, and the WLAN reception was bad. For the service provided, it felt expensive. Sorry, I wouldn’t stay here again unless I had to.

For the price, this is great. The rooms are lovely and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s right in the city centre, but the soundproof windows keep things quiet. Highly recommend!

The location made getting around Dortmund very easy. Hauptbahnhof is a three-minute walk away, the U-bahn is right outside the entrance, and the city centre is all within walking distance. We stayed for two nights for the CL match between Borussia Dortmund and Bodø Glimt. Our train was delayed, so we arrived after midnight, but check-in was smooth and quick. The beds were good, the bathroom was clean, and breakfast was okay.
