Hotel Kipping

The room was large, with a shower bathroom, soap and combined soap and shampoo, a very firm bed with a comforter, several chairs, and a desk and fridge setup. The desk and fridge seemed new, and possibly the bed too. The shower worked, but without flow regulators the temperature kept going up and down. The walls and ceiling were cracked and badly in need of paint, and the carpet was stained. It was reasonably clean, but the first impression was poor. The Hotel Villa-Noel (formerly Kipping) is near Dresden train station and could suit a very late arrival or early departure if you don’t want to interact with staff or anyone else. It has an elevator, which qualifies it as a three-star place, but in its current state it feels more like two stars. Like other reviewers have said, the rooms and common areas need a facelift. The building has good bones but looks extremely tired. You need a room code to get through the front door and to enter your room, and there’s no one at a desk. I didn’t buy breakfast, which you have to request electronically by 8 p.m. I still saw no staff when I walked past the breakfast area. There’s no kettle in the room, just a socket where one could go, though they did provide two mugs.

The rooms are run down, with cables sticking out of the walls, clogged plumbing, broken shower stalls, and mold with a bad smell. There doesn’t seem to be anyone available to contact. You can try WhatsApp, but reaching them involves solving a puzzle because the prefix they give is wrong. Honestly, look somewhere else. Even the location doesn’t seem that bad.

We were moved to a suite at no extra charge. It was attractive and spacious, right by the central station, and check-in was available 24 hours. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Best hotel experience of this trip.

My dog and I both loved the hotel, the service, and the location. The neighborhood is quiet and cozy, but still easy to get around on foot. Breakfast has everything you need. I’d recommend it to anyone.
