Ambassador Duesseldorf Hotel

I usually trust the Best Western name, so I booked a couple of nights over New Year's Eve as a regular customer. I was completely wrong to expect quality. The only two stars I'd give are for the location, and room 503 should be closed and never offered for booking. They say the room is thoroughly cleaned, but that's simply not true. The floor by the window side of the bed, at the bottom of the pond, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ten years and was greasy and dirty. There was leftover food from a previous guest in the fridge, and mold covered the bathroom around the window and in the shower. Some plastic wall tiles were nearly falling off. We could hear our neighbors farting, and the elevator door slamming woke us every time someone used it. The worst hotel I've stayed in, and the worst one in Germany so far. Stay away.

The room was a decent size and very clean, with a really comfortable bed. There was tea and coffee, plus access to a small fridge, a TV, a safe, and a fan. The bathroom was clean too, and had a hairdryer, good-sized towels, soap, and shower gel. Breakfast was a standard continental spread with a good range to choose from. Staff were friendly but professional, and gave clear directions at check-in.

We were disappointed with the Best Western in Düsseldorf. The room smelled awful, and opening the window brought in so much traffic and tram noise that we couldn't get any relief. They leave earplugs in every room, which tells you a lot about how noisy it gets.

We noticed small blood spots on the sheets in the morning, and when we investigated, we found bedbugs. Reception wasn't much help. They offered another room, but nothing else, and insisted these weren't bedbugs even though I have photos that clearly show them. I asked for a full refund and was told to contact Best Western online. They didn't help us find another hotel or wash our clothes to deal with possible bugs, and offered no compensation for a day that was completely ruined. Nothing. I'm very disappointed with Best Western. I've usually had better experiences with them.
