Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf by IHG

The room was spacious, comfortable, and nicely decorated, with cozy beds and spotless linens. We also found the staff friendly and the location great. There was some noise from the A/C unit even when it was turned off, and though cleanliness was excellent overall, the toilet bowl could’ve been cleaner. It had some scale buildup and a faint urine odour. For the price we paid, I can’t complain.

The main issue was what we expected from a 4 star Hotel Indigo compared with what we got. There was no bar or restaurant, and the bar apparently only opens at weekends, though it definitely wasn’t open on a Friday night. There was no room service either. For the price and star rating, surely there are minimum standards. It felt rather like a 2 star Travelodge or Premier Inn in the UK. The room itself was fine: a city view suite for two adults and one child, with a comfortable double sofa bed already made up. There was a fridge but no minibar, plus a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, iron, hairdryer and other basics. The location was good, with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and the U-bahn and S-bahn close by. Parking is at the nearby Q park and costs €25 a day.

The room was comfortable, with a modern, stylish bathroom, and the hotel is an easy walk from central Düsseldorf. Breakfast could use a few vegan choices. There was cereal, but no plant milk, and the only vegan items I could see were bread, margarine, jam, and a few pickles.

The cleaning staff seemed understaffed and underpaid, so I can understand why rooms may not be cleaned if guests stay in all day and expect staff to enter without notice. The amenities themselves were fine. One side of the building faces a homeless shelter, though, and the noise woke me several times at night: drunk or drug-affected people shouting, occasional fire alarms, and siren-blaring vehicles right below the window.
