For the past few years, we’ve kept coming back to the Hotel Garni run by the Fischerweber family. We've visited Lake Tegernsee for a long time and have stayed at several places around it. We really like the building's typical Bavarian look, and the rooms, apartments, and holiday apartments have a comfortable Bavarian feel. The bathrooms have recently been updated to a modern, high-quality standard. Room cleaning is excellent, too. Breakfast has everything we could want, with products from local businesses and suppliers. Its position by the lake is exceptional for both the views and the infrastructure. It is at the corner of two streets, and there is traffic from hotel guests and sightseers, much of it generated by Hotel Überfahrt at the end of the street. The Fischerweber family are friendly hosts, and the next generation is already involved.

The cleanliness deserves credit, thanks to the housekeeping staff. The rest left me disappointed. Tegernsee's high society seems like a thing from the past here: an overpriced room, and no other amenities. Having worked in the industry, I can't make sense of the other reviews, most of them from 2023. The decor is very conservative and dated, with old-fashioned furniture beside a modern bathroom. The TV is small, and the lighting was awful. It took me back to a childhood holiday in Romania in 1977, when low energy availability meant light bulbs were limited to 40 watts. Breakfast felt outrageous on closer inspection. Tea bags are set out between two seating areas, which disturbs the other guests, and pre-made muesli is the only cereal. There's no choice, not even gluten-free cereal. Requests about how to prepare things like fried eggs aren't accommodated. Guests are expected to follow the hosts' view that it has to look nice. I've had hostel breakfasts that were just as good. The location isn't exactly the best part of Rottach-Egern. Roads nearby get quite busy during the day, so real peace and quiet isn't possible. And some rooms don't have a direct lake view. Tegernsee Tourism gives overnight guests a card for various discounts, but ours was issued only 3 or 4 days later. Arriving on Thursday or Friday meant we couldn't use the advertised discounts for the preceding weekend, despite staying 5 or 6 days. That's very unprofessional.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The owners clearly put care into running the place, and the hotel was very good. Our room was beautifully furnished and spotless; breakfast featured excellent regional specialties. With private access to the lake, the location is hard to beat.

We’ve already stayed here three times and will certainly be back. The location of Hotel Garni Fischerweber right on the lake is a dream, with its own lake access. The rooms and apartments are lovely and very clean, and breakfast is delicious with a wonderful view. The Huber family are always available if you need anything and are very helpful. For a fee, you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride with Herr Huber, and you can also visit their own schnapps distillery.

We were so pleased to have found this lovely family-run hotel. The welcome was warm, and we felt at ease straight away. Our room looked out over the lake and Wallberg mountain, and breakfast each morning had plenty of variety, from cold cuts and jams to different egg dishes and tasty juices. Everyone was friendly. We'll definitely return.
