Garner Hotel Elmshorn by IHG

I only used the conference and work rooms, which were good. I didn't stay overnight, so I can't say anything about the guest rooms. The staff were extremely kind and welcoming.

I booked two rooms and was disappointed as an IHG member. They didn't meet IHG standards. The hotel is outside Hamburg and shouldn't be listed as being in Hamburg. One room had a dirty toilet, as shown in the photo. There was no fridge, coffee or tea, or air conditioning, and the hallways smelled. The elevator shook a little and barely fit two people. The rooms were large and the beds comfortable.

The staff were really nice and helpful, and the location was good, close to a supermarket and bus stop. But the breakfast was the same every day with little variety. Dinner at the restaurant tasted good, though the service could use more work on its attentiveness. I booked 11 nights in July and got a room above the smoking area at the front of the hotel. There was no air conditioning or fan, so I had to choose between a hot room with the window shut or letting in smoke when I opened it for fresh air. People smoked there around the clock. I tried keeping the window closed at first, but eventually woke up and opened it because I couldn't stand the heat, even with the smoke coming in. The walls and floors were thin too. I could hear every step from the room above, and the neighboring room's door and window closing each time. This was my worst experience with IHI hotel group.

The clean, quiet room and very friendly, helpful staff made for a good stay. The rooms have some interesting layouts, at least on the top floor. Getting there was easy, and there were plenty of parking spaces for the car overnight. You can walk to a supermarket, restaurant, and sports complex. The hotel's restaurant had some really good options, and breakfast had everything needed for a great start to the day. I can definitely recommend the place.
