Heerens Hotel

The room was spotless and very large, but the hotel felt dated, especially the entrance and our room, which could use modernising. We were given a disability room. It seemed well suited to someone with mobility needs, though the bars around the toilet, low sink and fixed shower chair weren't practical for us. Since the place and room weren't to our taste, we asked reception the next morning if we could leave a night early. The staff were great and agreed. We'd chosen it because it had the best reviews among Emden's dog-friendly hotels. After a long drive, we arrived at 6pm to find the hotel closed. There was no multilingual information on the door explaining what to do. We'd spoken to a staff member earlier and said we'd arrive around 6pm, so it was disappointing that nobody had told us what to expect. Check-in and key collection were at another hotel a little further down the street. It took us a while to figure that out, which made arrival stressful. It's advertised as a 3 star hotel, so maybe it was a bit unfair of us to expect a nicer-looking place. The cleanliness was faultless.
