Haus Reitz

The breakfast, served at the table, was perfectly adequate, and the rooms were very clean. They do feel a little dated, with a 90s style. I also can’t agree with the reviews praising the friendliness: we got a rather reserved greeting, were briefly shown to our room, and that was it. While we were out, someone entered our room without asking us first. Completely unacceptable, and the reason for my three stars.

We made good use of the guest card, which lets you take the bus and train for free, including trips to Cochem, Koblenz, or Bullay. Mr. Reitz explained it all clearly. There’s also secure storage for bicycles, and we parked our car easily in the lot behind the house. Water, beer, and wine are available on a self-service basis in the cellar, along with a fridge and glasses, with payment due at the end of the stay. The highlight each morning was Mrs. Reitz’s lovely breakfast: fresh rolls and coffee, juice, boiled eggs, changing choices of fruit, cheese, and cold cuts, plus jam. She could also provide yogurt or milk for a small muesli station. We got tips for outings and enjoyed pleasant chats along the way. Thank you to Josef and Resi Reitz for a wonderful week on the Moselle. We were warmly welcomed, and that first impression lasted. Room 2 was large, bright, and comfortably furnished, with a big wardrobe, double bed where we slept well, bedside tables, mirror, coat rack, two armchairs and a table, and a wall TV. Glasses were provided too. The large balcony looked onto the vineyard and had two chairs and a table. Cushions and a parasol were in the room. The spacious bathroom had a window and shower, towels, and a hairdryer. We had to say goodbye after the week, but the house and Mr. and Mrs. Reitz will stay in our hearts. It deserves more than five stars. Thanks also for the little bedtime treat, such a small thing that made us happy. T+T

Ernst is tiny, so dining choices are limited. Mosella-Schinkenstube can be as noisy as a train station, and some wine bars or taverns shut as early as 6 pm. After dinner there’s nowhere to have a glass of wine to finish the evening. I’ve been coming back for years and am always glad to return. The welcome is friendly, the rooms are clean, and breakfast is tasty and plentiful. There are cool drinks, including wine, beer, and water, in the cellar for the day and evening. Parking is available for cars and bicycles, and the guest ticket gives access to information about nearby sights.

Ernst makes a great base for outings, whether you’re walking or driving. We had a lovely week at the Reitz family’s cosy guesthouse and would gladly return again and again. Everything was just right, and breakfast was fantastic. They made sure every wish was taken care of. Many thanks to the Reitz family for a wonderful holiday.
